TİNNİTUS

Tinnitus is the feeling of sound in the ear without any external sound stimulus. According to the characteristics of the sound, it can be described by patients as humming, noise, water sound, wind sound, whistling, buzzing or other sounds. Tinnitus is not a disease, it is a symptom of other underlying diseases. It can occur at any age, but is more common in adults.

Tinnitus can have many causes. These are earwax, infection, perforation of the eardrum, fluid accumulation in the middle ear, calcification in the middle ear bones, allergies, high/low blood pressure, tumors involving the auditory nerve, hearing loss, nose/sinus diseases, cardiovascular diseases, brain tumors, thyroid gland diseases. Many reasons such as tinnitus, hormonal changes, Meniere's disease, some drugs, long exposure to noise or sudden exposure to very loud sounds at once, diabetes, old age, etc. can cause tinnitus. In most patients, a cause of tinnitus cannot be found.

Diagnosis

A patient with tinnitus should first see an otolaryngologist. In this way, some causes of tinnitus, which are diagnosed only by examination, such as earwax, external ear canal inflammation, middle ear inflammation, and perforation of the eardrum can be detected. The general health status of the patient, the drugs he uses and his habits give an idea about the causes of many tinnitus. By performing a detailed otolaryngology and head and neck examination, all possible causes of tinnitus that may arise from the nose, nasal passages, sinuses, mouth, pharynx and larynx can be reviewed. if needed after inspection;

– Hearing tests

- Blood pressure

– blood tests

– Radiological examinations can be done.

Treatment

Tinnitus is not a disease, it is a symptom that can occur as a result of many diseases. In most of the patients, a specific cause can be identified, and with the treatment of this cause, the tinnitus will also be treated. Many patients can cope better with tinnitus with the use of one or more methods together in patients who have not found any tinnitus cause.

Although drug therapy, hearing aids, sound sources that can be heard with headphones or remotely are the main methods used in tinnitus, many different methods such as herbal treatments, magnetic wave application, laser application, biofeedback, matching and adaptation of tinnitus sound, and lifestyle changes can be used as alternatives in the treatment of tinnitus.

Suggestions:

– Do not be exposed to loud noise and noise

– Keep your blood pressure under control

– Reduce salt intake

– Avoid stimulants such as coffee, cola and tobacco

– Avoid anxiety

– Shouldn't worry about tinnitus. The more the patient worries and falls on him, the louder the ringing will be.

– Avoid fatigue, take care to get enough rest.

– Exercise regularly.

– Make use of a sound that will mask the tinnitus.

– Avoid unnecessary use of aspirin and some earmuffs.
